How To Know Your House Needs Levelling

If you suspect your house is not level, there are a few telltale signs that are easily identifiable. We’ve put together the most common issues that may indicate your house needs levelling.
1. GAPS IN EXPANSION JOINTS
Expansion joints in walls and ceilings may start to open up, indicating movement in the foundations.
2. CRACKS ON THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR OF YOUR HOME
Visible cracking of the interior or exterior walls, ceilings and or flooring of your home is a common sign that your house needs levelling. Look for cracks in plasterboard as well as vertical cracks that get wider and narrower as the weather changes.
Inside the house, be on the lookout for cracks in architraves, door frames, skirting boards and external cladding just to name a few.
3. SEVERAL PREVIOUS REPAIRS
If you aren’t the original owner of the home, look into the history of past repairs to the home in the form of repairs to door latches, evidence of patching plasterboard, replacement moving of latches.
4. STICKING WINDOWS AND DOORS
If you can’t easily open and close your windows and doors, this is an indicator of issues with foundations. Often, this will happen on one side of the house which then causes the framework of the doors and windows to move slightly out of square..
5. UNEVEN FLOORS
Uneven floors are a big giveaway that your home has issues with the foundations, there are a few ways to easily test this. Using a marble or a golf ball is another quick way to test the level of your floor, the faster the ball rolls, the more out of level your floor is. If you are using a level, the longer the level, the more accurate it will be determining how out your floor is.
